Calculate the range of a set of data Statistics & Probabilities

Find the range of the following sets of data.

4, 2, 5, 11, 18, 3, 4, 14, 17, 8, 8, 9, 3

The range of a set of data is the difference between its largest value and its smallest value.

Here, the set in order is:

2, 3, 3, 4, 4, 5, 8, 8, 9, 11, 14, 17, 18

We observe that:

  • The largest value is 18
  • The smallest value is 2

Therefore the range is:

18 - 2 = 16

The range of this set of data is 16.

16, 4, 7, 7, 9, 2, 3, 15, 14, 8, 5, 10

The range of a set of data is the difference between its largest value and its smallest value.

Here, the set in order is:

2, 3, 4, 5, 7, 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16

We observe that:

  • The largest value is 16
  • The smallest value is 2

Therefore the range is:

16 - 2 = 14

The range of this set of data is 14.

18, 14, 5, 7, 9, 7, 8, 9, 15, 19, 22, 26, 6

The range of a set of data is the difference between its largest value and its smallest value.

Here, the set in order is:

5, 6, 7, 7, 8, 9, 9, 14, 15, 18, 19, 22, 26

We observe that:

  • The largest value is 26
  • The smallest value is 5

Therefore the range is:

26 - 5 = 21

The range of this set of data is 21.

10, 11, 16, 14, 20, 14, 1, 16, 20, 15, 18, 13

The range of a set of data is the difference between its largest value and its smallest value.

Here, the set in order is:

1, 10, 11, 13, 14, 14, 15, 16, 16, 18, 20, 20

We observe that:

  • The largest value is 20
  • The smallest value is 1

Therefore the range is:

20 - 1 = 19

The range of this set of data is 19.

18, 14, 6, 8, 29, 4, 10, 11, 16, 13, 16, 7, 6

The range of a set of data is the difference between its largest value and its smallest value.

Here, the set in order is:

4, 6, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 14, 16, 16, 18, 29

We observe that:

  • The largest value is 29
  • The smallest value is 4

Therefore the range is:

29 - 4 = 25

The range of this set of data is 25.

14, 16, 14, 15, 9, 10, 9, 15, 13, 16, 13, 12, 15

The range of a set of data is the difference between its largest value and its smallest value.

Here, the set in order is:

9, 9, 10, 12, 13, 13, 14, 14, 15, 15, 15, 16, 16

We observe that:

  • The largest value is 16
  • The smallest value is 9

Therefore the range is:

16 - 9 = 7

The range of this set of data is 7.

19, 14, 6, 3, 19, 15, 3, 14, 17, 2, 16, 15, 7

The range of a set of data is the difference between its largest value and its smallest value.

Here, the set in order is:

2, 3, 3, 6, 7, 14, 14, 15, 15, 16, 17, 19, 19

We observe that:

  • The largest value is 19
  • The smallest value is 2

Therefore the range is:

19 - 2 = 17

The range of this set of data is 17.
